Freedom High School is a part of the Hillsborough County Public School District. Located in New Tampa it serves students in grades 9-12. Freedom High School was named in honor of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

Activities and programs

Band

The Freedom High School Band has more than doubled in size since the schools' opening. They have earned a top rating of Superior in marching band for the shows Queen in 2003, Aerosmith in 2004, Phantom of the Opera in 2005, Fusion in 2007, Helios in 2008, Espionage in 2010, and The Sound of Silence in 2011. Many Superiors have also been earned by the Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band at district and state level. The Freedom High School Jazz Band performs locally on many occasions and traveled to San Antonio, Texas (2008) where they earned a Superior rating, as well as having selected students winning various solo awards. Many of the band members consistently make All-County and/or All-State Bands and also participate in district and state level FBA Solo and Ensemble, where many receive Superior ratings as well.

Leadership

In June, 2008, principal Richard Bartels retired. Mr. Bartels was the first principal of Freedom High School and helped to open the school in 2002. Christopher Farkas, formerly from Tampa Bay Technical High School, is the current principal.
